Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. But for a young Irish girl with talented parents and extended family these traits came as a natural. Maureen entered this loving haven within Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th, 1920. Marguerita LIlburn FitzSimons, the mother of her. She was an accomplished contralto. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara made up this family. Maureen did well as a sporty woman and was a gruelling athlete in games as a child. The combination of this passion and her gift in performing was astonishing. Her winning of almost all the Feis prizes for her own nation's theatre and drama was a testament to this. At the age of 14, the Abbey Theater accepted her and let her live her dream in classical theater and singing opera.
